A recognizable image, an iconic silhouette: Olivier Rousteing from the very beginning strived to ensure that from the first glance at Balmain by Olivier Rousteing it could not be confused with anything else. After Olivier Rousteing was assigned into a role of a creative director he remained the luxurious feel of Balmain but with a youthful approach. The brand allows you to experience the mix of classics and modern vision in Balmain fall winter collection.
The brand is all about traditional couture techniques but with an experimental approach. Current designer Olivier Rousteing feels responsible to carry on the long rich history of the brand while remaining the appeal to today’s generation.
We experienced the mix of classics and the eighties punchy suit from executive director of Balmain, Olivier Rousteing in the recent fall winter 2020 collection. The show was dominated by sand-colored runways and models wearing head to toe camel tones that reminds of dessert dunes. However that was not inspired by the desert but instead a collection that reflects designer’s origin and roots.
The designer grew up in Bordeaux adopted by middle class French family. He draws his inspiration from newly discovered roots in Somalia and Ethiopia. When designer spoke of the inspiration for the show, Olivier states he mixed “the personal and the professional”. As he said :“I think my vision has become bigger because I’ve discovered where I come from. I’m proud of my origin and I’m proud of who I am today thanks to my French parents in Bordeaux.”
He was enthusiastic to share his creativity with less sharp and blinding silhouettes replaced with soft and colorful looks. Draped and loosely fit clothes with brights suits were definitely highlights of the show. However, Balmain show won’t be Balmain without eye catching details and prints that balance out the soft touch of neurals. Balmain’s authenticity was reflected in the printed jackets, shirts and scarfs. Preforming the mix masculinity while making it incredibly elegant as one of the kind what makes Balmain shows so memorable.
